I'm STILL using Flock

I'm surprised. I'm still using Flock. It's not that it's a poor browser, it's just that it's not Firefox. I mean that the features are really nice, but all of the extensions Firefox has are too much to really leave. So the deal breaker for me may be gone. Flock appears to work with Firefox extensions just fine. This is the best of both worlds, then.

Running the Flock (beta) Web Browser

I'm now running the Flock beta (.9) I really like this version much better than the released .7 version. The theme makes it much easier to deal with, and more acceptable to the eye. The one thing I'm finding most lacking is tab management. SessionSaver has been ported to Flock, which I have only used on Firefox, so I'll probably just use that. If there is anyone reading this, and interested in Google Sync, I'm going to try installing this first.

Trying Flock Web Browser Again

It's been a while, but I decided to try the Flock web browser again. I was really excited when I first heard about the beta. So excited (yes, I am a geek for sure) that I posted something about it on my blog. Of course, nobody reads my blog. It's for me. But one of the employees from Flock actually commented (I think he was an employee, anyway). I was really, really excited for the download to become available then.

Use Del.icio.us bookmarks creatively (Firefox only)

Interesting use of del.icio.us with Firefox (and a dash of google's browser sync) This may be more common than I think, but I haven't seen any reference to it anywhere. Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site, but I have a different (additional) use for it.

Firefox Extensions I'm Using

Firefox extentions I'm using now: SessionSaver .2, Tab X, FlashGot, Google Suggest, IE Tab, Tabbrowser preferences, Del.icio.us, SwitchProxy Too, Mozilla Archive Format and Google Browser Sync. I may get rid of the Del.Icio.us extension as I only use it as a bookmark site, and with the RSS feeds + Live Bookmarks in Firefox, this feature rocks. It gives me drop down menus of my Del.icio.us pages as if they were a local bookmarks list, but they are always up to date, and the same on all of my computers.

Programming FireFox Extensions

Here's an interesting link to a tutorial on creating FireFox extensions, Firefox Extension Development Tutorial :: Overview. I'm a bit interested in dabbling with FireFox extensions out a of desire to just hack something, and this has the added benefit of being done with Javascript. I hate the idea of using VBScript for anything since it's a crap language. Javascript is so much like C, Java, C# etc. that it wont be too much of a diversion from the mainstream stuff.

Revolutionary Gun Engine?

Here's a link to an article about the gun engine.  Sounds like a radical new design that has a revolutionary potential. Time will tell, though; but only regarding the success, not the usefulness or superior design questions. I imagine this is likely to get crushed if it is a truth and works.

Putting together a generic framework for building systems

"Framework" may be too generic a term, but that will become more clear as I develop this idea a bit further. I'll start making posts as the bits and pieces float through my head (that could be once a year at the rate I post, and the rate at which ideas come to me sometimes!) What I'm hoping to do is to put together all of the ideas that are simply too many to remember while building systems.

Backup on XP using NTBackup

NTBackup was created as a trimmed down version of Backup Exec. It even saves in a format that the latest versions of Backup Exec can read (HINT! If you are an administrator, you can use this -> how a out system state backups all centrally located. No need for a backup Exec license on every server) For some reason, MS didn't rename the app, it's still NT Backup even though it's running on 2000, 2003, XP, workstations, server, home versions, etc. It's not included with XP home, but copying it from an XP pro system works just fine!
