Use Del.icio.us bookmarks creatively (Firefox only)
March 13, 2007 – 12:44 amInteresting use of del.icio.us with Firefox (and a dash of google’s browser sync)
This may be more common than I think, but I haven’t seen any reference to it anywhere. Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site, but I have a different (additional) use for it. In combination with Firefox, it’s really useful to me.
Ingredients:
- A del.icio.us account (My page is http://del.icio.us/.robert )
- I have the del.icio.us “Post to del.icio.us” bookmarklet button in my Firefox toolbar (get one at http://del.icio.us/help/buttons if you already have a del.icio.us account)
- And the last bit; go to your del.icio.us page in Firefox, and “subscribe” to your bookmarks using the little orange RSS icon in the bookmarks toolbar. When it asks where to put it, choose your bookmarks tool folder.
Now you have a place to store bookmarks and never lose them. When visit a site you want to bookmark, click your “Post to del.icio.us” bookmarklet, and type a description and some tags. I thought that was really nice, but wait! There’s more!
Now get the Google browser sync tool at http://www.google.com/tools
